A great synthesis of Malian pop music 9 April 2005
By spaceboy from Saturn - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Sidi Toure was a founding member of one of the regional bands of Mali in the late 60s when the national government made a concerted effort to support popular music based on folkloric forms. On this recording, he incorporates a guitar style somewhat like Ali Farka Toure (no relation), along with the goje, a folkloric fiddle, and an electric band. The songwriting is varied, the playing crisp and uplifting, and the style incorporates elements from Guinean and Senegalse as well as Malian pop traditions. This bears repeated listenings, great for late nights on the computer or lounging at home.
