Hod Lipson (1967-) was born in Haifa, Israel. After serving as a Naval officer for five years, he received his Ph.D. from the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology in 1998, and continued to a postdoc at Brandeis University and MIT. Since 2001, he is an Associate Professor of Engineering at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY.
Lipson directs the Creative Machines Lab, which develops machines that create, and machines that are creative. His research focuses primarily on biologically-inspired approaches, as they bring new ideas to engineering and new engineering insights into biology.
Lipson has coauthored over 200 technical papers, and delivered over 100 keynotes and colloquia. His first book, on 3D printing, is coming out in Jan 2013.
