The British weather is notoriously unreliable. So when trapped inside by torrential rain you need to find a way to keep your spirits up. The Khet Laser Game is a failsafe piece of equipment to use in this situation. And here are two reasons why: 1) the Khet Laser Game is the first strategic board game to incorporate laser technology. 2) Thus, it provides you with hours of game playing fun that will see you through to a sunny day. The object of the game is to manoeuvre your Egyptian themed pieces - most of which have a mirrored side to them - around the board so that when you 'fire' the laser from your corner, it shoots around the pieces on the board and strikes your opponents Pharaoh piece. Do not worry is the thunderstorm takes the lights out. The Khet Laser Game makes an extraordinarily entertaining game to play in pitch black.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent game, 17 Jul 2008

An excellent purchase that I'm very pleased with. The game is well designed, the instructions are clear and precise enough to get playing straight away.

The complexity of the game is well pitched so that you can pick up the basics straight away, making it very accesible, but the level of strategy is deep enough so that you will develop new tricks and moves along the way to increase it's longevity.

It's also incredibly addictive, which is not bad thing as it challenges you to use your brain power not only to plot your own moves, but to try to counteract your opponent also.

There are several different starting positions, each with varying balance between attack and defence. Having played the game a number of times I'm confident to say that it does not seem to get repetitive, and game rarely follow the same pattern. The "Eye of Horus" add on is a great purchase, slightly expensive for an extra 2 pieces, but adds a real depth of extra gameplay options.

The only slight criticism I have, echoed in one of the previous reviews, is that the pieces aren't quite as robust and precisely made as they could be, there are occasions when the beam can become slightly off centre which means that it may not take the correct course at longer ranges.

HOWEVER - With a bit of care, you can combat this - Take a few moments "testing" each piece at a distance from the beam, if you carefully press the mirrors one way or the other you can seem to "settle" them and align them better. If you do find that the beam is slightly out of line during a game, and can't settle the mirrors, try swapping the piece that seems to be affecting the beam's trajectory with another of the same pieces on the board. Also pieces are eliminated, at it seems that it's the common "pyramid" piece that is usually at fault, just switch out any dodgy pieces early on as pieces are eliminated from the game reasonably readily.

I appreciate that this is not ideal, and I agree with the comment before that for the price you pay, the quality should be better - That said the problems have a reasonable workaround, and I'd advise anyone not to let these slight inconveniences get in the way of what is a thoroughly good game.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Game let down by Quality of Manufacture, 19 Feb 2008

The concept of Khet is a brilliant strategy game uising lasers. You really need to know your angles of reflection to enjoy this. The fact that there are add on features to the basic pack (which is great in itself) incluing the extra Pillar make this an enduring masterpiece. It is fun and very easy to understand and pick up, may take a while to master and no two games should be the same.

However, sadly it is rather let down by the quality of its manufacture. When using mirrors to reflect a beam of light around a board (some pieces even split the light for more fun); you need to be pretty accurate in both quality of the pieces and materials used. Unfortunately this is not the case with Khet, which concidering the price; you would expect. When using pieces like the 'Eye of Horus' (beam splitter), you need to mark out the path of the beams manually and this can get quite complicated especially if the beam is reflected off the board or somewhere it shouldn't be.

Basically this is down to the simple fact that any divence of the beam to the norm; no matter how small to start with; will get worse each time the beam is bounced from piece to piece.

Never the less: A Great Game just let down by 'some' shoddy workmanship and Quality Control.

I would still recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent game with lasers, 21 Jan 2008

This is a game well worth waiting for and you will have fun playing it. You will find it is quicker to pick up than Chess and once you get used to the mirrors you will love playing this game. I bought the game after waiting ages for it to get to the UK, then played it with my friends, who are now addicted to it.
You move a piece one at a time and then fire the laser. If it hits a mirror piece (a Djed or Pyramid) the beam reflects off in a straight line until it either hits the wall or a non reflecting piece (an Obelisk or Pharaoh), which is taken off the board. If it hits a Pharaoh, that is GAME OVER-even if you hit your own Pharaoh! The Pyramid or Djed can move a quarter turn (90 degrees) left or right which can change the game. You have a basic set up for the start of the game and can chose up to 3 other starts. Silver always starts first. The side of the board has silver and red squares in a row and where Red can not go on to a silver square and vis versa. Opposite the row colours are two corner squares of the opposite colour and this means that you can block a piece.
The side of the board has hieroglyphs on it for decoration.
Later you can add pieces to the game to make it more exiting.

All in all a very addictive game and fun.
