Beware before you purchase this item. To start with, in the instructions, in spite of other infrared massagers available through Homedics (the Champneys range) stating clearly on the front of the box that they "help to improve circulation" this product states do NOT use if you have poor blood circulation (and a long list of other conditions which if you have, you must not use the product).
Secondly, ... "The HydraGel Dampening System ensures vibration is isolated to the massage head". My foot it does. Simultanously holding the Champneys infrared massager and this massager, I can assure every one out there this is complete rubbish. They both vibrate in your hand at the exact same level. I passed them round four other people who all agreed. 3 out of four said the vibration was to such a degree that it was actually uncomfortable. Personally, although I agree it does vibrate and the gel dampening system is just a gimick (one which doesn't deliver) I did not feel it as uncomfortable, just irritating after a while.
Thirdly...if you are looking to use a product which offers infrared with no massage as an option, think again, massage is the main function, infrared is just in addition to the massage. Otherwise I would have kept the item.
Lastly, yes it is quite light, but only in comparison to the shiatsu and percussion massagers. My review isn't an advert for the Champneys massager btw, I really doubt I will keep that one either as they both vibrate too much in the hand for the intended user. The Champneys runs out of battery after a max of 15 mins (more like 10 mins) too.
