It's probably a fair comment to say that no one does epic power ballads like Meat Loaf, and if you haven't got any of these songs already this best of album is well worth a listen - especially if you've a long car journey ahead of you.
The original Hits out of Hell came out in 1984, and since then Meat Loaf had had two really big hits in the early to mid nineties with I'd Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That) and I'd Lie For You (And That's The Truth). How can you have a best of album without those? And that's why this album has been re-released, although it's only going to be newcomers and casual listeners of his songs who are going to be interested, as the die-hard fans will value the original release far more than this amended re-issue.
As a best of album, they don't come much better than this though, and it is to be hoped that a new generation will buy this album and enjoy it, for these are timeless songs - it doesn't matter what age you are, what job you do, what types of music you usually listen to - Meat Loaf's songs have a true cross-society appeal.
