4.0 out of 5 stars an chilling account of appaling opportunism 14 Nov 2000
By A Customer
LeBor manages to give an appaling and chilling account of Swiss opportunism. For decades the Swiss in general kept up the appearance of a nice, polite neutral country during war time. This book blows that story to smithereens. No idyllic alpine country, but a money making nation without scruples. It is appaling to read how nazi gold was welcomed at the same borders at which refugees were sent back. The personal touch of the author bridges the gap between the chilling but somewhat distant reality then and now. A should read for people in general and Swiss in particular.

1.0 out of 5 stars A tedious read 3 Nov 2004
By David - Published on Amazon.com
The book probably has an important message which is no doubt factually correct. It's pages are littered with references to the dreadful plight of the Jews throughout those times. Unfortunately this is so much so that the message is completely buried. It rapidly becomes a tedious read.
