Product Description

Love history? Know your stuff with History in an Hour.

What made a failed Austrian artist into the most reviled and destructive personality of the twentieth century? Where did the seeds of his rabid anti-Semitism lie? How did a marginalized loner become such a moving force in Germany? How could a nation have fallen for such a fanatic? What made him so determined to bring about war?

Through manipulation of politicians and civilians, bullying, diplomacy, violence and lies, Hitler achieved a total and unlikely power. Covering his early life, military service in World War One and eventual rise to power, first as the leader of the Nazi party, and then head of state, Hitler: History in an Hour describes the life of a man who spent his final days inside a bunker having plunged the world into a global conflict, the bloodiest in history.

More About the Author

Rupert Colley, a former librarian, is the founder of 'History In An Hour', a series of titles that can be read in just sixty minutes - history for busy people. Published by William Collins, part of HarperCollins, the books are available here on the Amazon Kindle. As well as the titles written by Rupert, there are a number of other authors writing for the series - all readable In An Hour, and all intelligently and engagingly written.

Rupert's first novel, 'My Brother the Enemy', is a novella about two brothers, twins, and their rivalry and jealousies, and the girl they both love, set against the violent backdrop of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution, a "good, fast, page-turning read".

His second novel, 'This Time Tomorrow: an epic story of love set in World War One', is, as the subtitle suggests, a World War 1 novel, a compelling story of war, brotherly love, passion and betrayal.

Rupert's third novel, 'The Black Maria', set during Stalin's reign, in Moscow, 1935, is now out.

Easy to read with lots of details about Hitler's background and behaviour. The book provided all that is needed in a short history and made excellent reading.

Short and sweet, just what's needed for an overview of Mr Hitler.

Recommended on that basis. Doesn't cost much either.

4.0 out of 5 stars Worth reading 1 Feb 2013

I adore these history in an hour books. This contains some interesting details surrounding one of the most awful men in history. A curious insight into the life of such a strange character and the influences around him. Nicely written, easy to follow chronologically and just enough information to satisfy my curiosity.
The only negative is that information was at times repetitive, but still a good read.

3.0 out of 5 stars Hitler's life 30 Nov 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
A brief story of a monster. Great idea to cram this into a short text as it is so important that the history of the third Reich and Hitler is spread through the next generation. The numbers of Jews murdered in these few years is staggering.
