What Other Items Do Customers Buy After Viewing This Item?
TV series from the early '80s dealing with stories about the bizarre or supernatural. Linked by the figure of The Hitchhiker, a detached observer, who begins and ends each episode with observations about the characters or situations, the stories would often centre on the age-old battle of good versus evil.
As with Volume 2, which I received first, these tales are in no particular order so there are episodes from several series of the Hitchhiker here.
Disc 1 Last Scene - with Peter Coyote as a director struggling to get the best out of an actress Nightshift - Margot Kidder as a strict nurse in a retirement home. The Miracle of Alice Ames - a fake preacher, this didn't do much for me. Ghostwriter - Willem Dafoe and Dayle Haddon, Dafoe plays an writer who fakes his death, one of the best tales here. Man's Best Friend - a nice ending to disc 1 as a man's life turns upside down after his wife throws him out.
Disc 2 W.G.O.D. - Gary Busey plays an evangelist with a secret. Homebodies - Two killers on the run seek refuge in a show home. Why Are You Here? - a TV host seeking a story with an edge gets more than he planned, co-starring Helen Hunt. In The Name of Love - Lucy Gutteridge plays an assassin, but who is after who?
There are no really bad tales here although the Alice Ames tale didn't quite reach the standard of the others. There are several audio commentaries here, all the tales on Disc 1 (apart from Alice Ames) have a commentary by their director and Homebodies on Disc 2 also has a commentary. It's just a shame they did not release them in season box sets.
