I really enjoyed Zoe Barnes' "Bumps" and was looking forward to reading "Hitched". It did not match up to "Bumps", there was too much about Gemma's football team, and I found myself skipping all the bits about football, which was quite a big chunk. I felt it was irrelevant to the plot. Sorry, but although Zoe managed to retain my interest in the main story, the other bits were pretty dull.

Zoe Barnes' novels are as essential, light and delicious as a box of maltesers; the books you can read between Emile Zola without spoiling your literary appetite. 'Hitched' is a typical example; a wonderful exploration of modern attitudes to marriage; with hilarious reflections on the well-meaning but ultimately extremely irritating tendencies of friends and relatives to 'help out' (i.e interfere) with that special day. By turns hilarious and poignant this is a splendid example of light fiction in the best possible sense of the word.

Zoe Barnes brings together all of the elements that everyone dreads about their wedding day. There is the obligatory young couple, the well meaning, yet stressed, maternal parents and the interfering mother-in-law who, despite meaning well, manages to cause complete mayhem. Through a series of disasters, all of which are quite imaginable in the real world, the wedding plans are thrown into chaos, yet in true fiction style, it all works out in the end. A very funny book, with some genuine moments, which keeps itself firmly rooted in the real world. What makes this so good is that the characters are increadibly well-scripted and the situations well thought through. A throughly good read.
