5.0 out of 5 stars Starting to panic! 23 May 2011
By Justine
Format:Audio CD
This is the definitive version of Hitch-Hikers, and it's brilliant. I've lost my copy, so I'm hoping Amazon will be able to get hold of some more. Soon.

Format:Audio CD
This is the original copies of the radio plays created by Douglas Adams. Probably the best writer of out time at his personal best.

I read this book and the other four in the trilogy many years ago and have been reading them over and over ever since. It stars Arthur Dent and his alien friend Ford Prefect who narrowly escape certain death when Earth is destroyed to make way for a hyperspace bypass. From the alien space ship they just hitch hiked a lift with, they begin their many adventures across the Galaxy, eventually meeting the infamous Glactic President, ZB and his two heads! A throughly enjoyable read, it will have you laughing from cover to cover.

5.0 out of 5 stars A comic masterpiece 14 July 2003
Format:Audio CD
Sad that there will be no more of Douglas Adams work to entertain and bend the minds of new audiences. The Hitchhikers Guide was his first foray into the world of science fiction with a comic twist and with the assistance of a superb cast and the BBC Radiophonic Workshop it remains his best and most inventive work. It has provided a generation with catch-phrases and comic points of reference. Do yourself a good turn and pick this up ASAP.

4.0 out of 5 stars The weirdest book ever! 30 Dec 2007
By horse 2
Format:Audio CD
I have never read any of Douglas Adams books before; I found this book strange and a bit unusual. But I still enjoyed the story based on an Earthling called Arthur Dent, who wakes up one morning to find the council preparing to demolish his home. This is also the day when the alien Vogons demolish the planet Earth to make way for a hyperspace express bypass.
I decided to watch the film which I thought was good, but the book is in much more detail than the film. So I would recommend you read the book before you watch the film.
If you are somebody that enjoys funny and unusual things then this is the book for you. I think this book would mainly be aimed towards young teenagers and older as it has some things in it, which might be a bit hard for a child to understand. When I read and watched the Hitch-Hikers Guide to the Galaxy I felt like I was there, watching the Earth being demolished by the alien Vogons.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thank you Mr Adams! 25 Jun 1999

This book was a great read for me at the age of 9. I heard the radio version first on a Saturday night with not much to do. My brother, sister and I loved Marvin and straight away I knew I was going to enjoy the other 4 books. After reading it for the first time I was all ready in to long books like "the Lord of the Rings" and "Duncton Wood" but this book blew the top off of my head. It's funny, most of it's contents is true (In some way or other) and Douglas's characters, I'd like to meet them pretty pronto. I'm in an IT lesson in the Brooke Weston City Technology College and beside me is a copy of that great book. And flicking through it now the imagination and creativity of Douglas Adams pours out in seconds. At the moment I'm reading "the Meaning of Liff" and "the Deeper Meaning of Liff" and I know that I've a great read in store tonight. Oh I can't,I'm watching "friends"
