The DeskstarTM 7K1000.C hard drive is a 7200 RPM 3.5-inch hard drive that provides an exceptional blend of power efficiency and performance, making it an ideal solution for power-friendly consumer and commercial desktop computers. This third-generation 1TB hard drive from Hitachi boosts media transfer rate performance by as much as 13% over its predecessor. Leveraging eighth-generation power management technology, as well as power-saving HiVERT innovations pioneered on the popular 2.5-inch line of notebook hard drives from Hitachi, this new desktop drive provides up to 18% idle power savings over the previous model, delivering best-in-class power management and thermal emissions.
The Deskstar 7K1000.C demonstrates Hitachi's ecological leadership with its halogen-free design and power-efficient operation. Both these features helped qualify the drive for the Hitachi EcoTrac classification, which identifies products that minimize environmental impact in the areas of product design, manufacturing, operation and disposal.

Great product. Installed, no fuss, just worked. In fact, installed two of them in a Netgear ReadyNAS Duo RND2000. Now I have a fail safe (fingers crossed :o) backup system.

Haven't had for long so not sure on reliability or though I do have this in a media server working 24/7 and after 1st month working fine. Good product, fast, quiet and good £/GB ratio.

I have planned for a while to get a couple of terrabyte drives for my NAS box with the intention of mirroring them. The thought of installing two terrabytes but only having one available stopped me every time I looked at the price....
These drives, however, hit the price point and I decided I was willing to take the plunge.
The delivery time was great, just a few days. Pretty good considering it was less than a fortnight before Christmas. Packaging was ideal - easy to open but really well protected (and 100% recyclable with my local kerbside collections!).
I dropped them both in the NAS box (Quad Giga unit bought on Amazon a couple of years ago) and formatted them as EXT3 with a Raid 1 mirror. Took a while (no surprise with a terrabyte disk) but they have really made a difference to my NAS box. I had 4 drives as JBOD of differing capacities totalling less than 800Gb but now, everything is mirrored, it's transfer rates have improved and setting up shares is much easier. Add the data protection from a mirror and I couldn't be happier.

Initially pleased but now dissappointed
Drive worked well initially, could say it installed easily but that's what we expect these days. It has been an external backup drive and only switched on about once a week. Read more

Not reliable.
Bought two of these in March 2010. One of them failed utterly by September. Not worth it even though they're reasonably priced.
