Product Description

Product Description

The DeskstarTM 7K2000 hard drive delivers a colossal two terabytes of storage capacity and 7200 RPM performance in a standard 3.5-inch form factor. Now in its fourth-generation, the 7K2000 is based on a robust mechanical design that continues to set the industry standard for quality and reliability. Through a patented ramp load/unload design, data heads are moved to a ramp away from the disk where they rest during periods of inactivity. This greatly minimizes the risk of shock damage by eliminating direct contact between the heads and disks, reducing wear and heat while improving overall drive reliability and power efficiency.

The Deskstar 7K2000 offers an exceptional blend of capacity and power efficiency, with idle power savings over previous generation products up to 10%. On a watts per gigabyte basis, idle power has improved over 120%. Leveraging eighth-generation power management technology, including power-saving innovations like HiVERT technology, this drive delivers best-in-class power management and thermal emissions to help manufacturers meet energy compliance targets and extend drive life.

The Deskstar 7K2000 demonstrates Hitachi ecological leadership with its halogen-free design and power-efficient operation. Both these features helped qualify the drive for the Hitachi EcoTrac classification, which identifies products that minimize environmental impact in the areas of product design, manufacturing, operation and disposal.

Excellent 24 Mar 2010
By ShopDoc
Bought 4 of these for a server RAID configuration and another one for external backups; these drives are fast and reliable - just what you need in a hard drive. Best value 2TB drive I've seen.

I've been buying these since they were first released and the only option for a 7200rpm 2TB SATA drive. Now I've got about 10. To me, they seem cheap, reliable and fast for server or client drives. What's not to like?

Since others have mentioned that these drives are noisy, I'll add my opinion on that. The purring seek noise is comparable to some other hard drives and you'd only really notice it if you had a silent PC and/or had experience of other particularly quiet drives. I don't have a silent PC but have had experience of near silent drives and the Hitachi still doesn't bother me. If you're very sensitive about seek noise and your PC thashes the drive all the time you may want to look elsewhere but I'll be buying more of these Hitachi drives.

I bought one of these to fit into a LG N2R1 NAS. Even though I could not find any certain proof that it would be compatible. However it formatted within 15 minutes in the NAS. It is very quiet in operation. The NAS runs cool, the fan speed never gets above tickover. I have backed up three PC's and am busy storing my DVD collection onto it, some 400 disks! All my documents, pictures and CD collection will eventually end up on it. Next month I plan on getting another one for the NAS and set it up as RAID1.

My opinion...well worth the money!
