I have had this recorder for over a year now. Strictly speaking I am now on my fifth one. One of the features listed in the instruction book is archiving which is supposed to allow you to select a number of programmes for playing one after another so you can leave it to record onto DVD or tape. This doesn't work. I have spoken and emailed Hitachi's techs so many times my head hurts. They maintain that the ones they have tried do work. All of the one's I've had allow you to set it all up then when you set it going all it does is play the sound with a blank screen. It's fine if you set a single programme playing. But if you want to archive a series it's a pain having to do one episode after another.

That having all been said in every other respect the recorder works virtually flawlessly. Sometimes in my neck of the woods (Scottish Borders) they don't broadcast the digital programme information on all channels. The default for the recorder is to use this info to start and stop the recordings. SO if its not there you don't get a recording. If it's a programme you really don't want to miss you can get round this by editing the timer to a "timer" rather than "event" recording. I think this may be a problem with most of these recorders.
