G-SAFE is the ideal storage solution to safeguard your important digital photos, audio and video libraries and documents. G-SAFE offers the ultimate in peace of mind by simultaneously writing to two independent hard disk drives providing instant back up of files as you save them. High-Speed Data Transfers, RAID 1 Peace-of-Mind
G-SAFE provides fail-safe operation and fast data access to all of your important files. When connected via FireWire 800, G-SAFE provides unprecedented read speeds in excess of 75 MB/second! G-SAFE is the the highest performance dual-drive RAID 1 (mirrored) system currently available.
During operation G-SAFE writes data to (2) independent disk drives simultaneously. If a drive failure occurs, your data is safe. G-SAFE will alert you of the failure and automatically begin reading data from the good drive. Simply replace the bad drive and G-SAFE will copy your data from the good drive to the new drive and return to protected mode.
| G-SAFE utilises two hot-swappable, 7200 RPM 3Gbit SATA hard drives. For example, G-SAFE 2TB incorporates 2x 2TB drives and provides a full 2TB of mirrored (RAID 1) storage capacity for your content. |

The G-Safe drive is a zero configuration Raid 0 (mirrored) drive housing including the two 2Tb drives. The drive is preformed for use for a Mac but it will work on any PC.
I've had this drive for about a month now.
The good:
1. Simple to setup and comes with all cables required.
2. High build quality.
3. Built-in power supply.
4. Very fast (on FW800)
But:
1. Slightly noisy due to fan - not excessive.
2. Expensive replacements drives (although the actual drives are standard hitachi the mounts are not sold individually so you need to purchase another drive directly from G-Technology).
Overall I am really pleased with both the quality and the performance of this drive - perfect for photographers where you need the extra safety of a mirrored drive. I have other G-Technology drives all of which have been very reliable.
Remember that although mirrored drive protects you from a drive failure - you must still backup all your valuable data.
I would certainly recommend this drive.

Overall I am really pleased with both the quality and the performance of this drive - perfect for photographers where you need the extra safety of a mirrored drive. I have other G-Technology drives all of which have been very reliable.
Remember that although mirrored drive protects you from a drive failure - you must still backup all your valuable data.

As a company we buy lots of drives for use with editing and storing video.
Recently out of 9 GSafe 2TB drives 5 of these (so a total of 10 hard drives as they come in mirrored sets) have become corrupt or unreadable. This is across several projects and 2 separate office locations where no information has been swapped between so I can rule out it being a virus in the office or edit. These drives were all bought separately from a couple of suppliers so I can also rule out it just being a bad batch of hard drives. Very strange situation, drives should never be this unreliable - especially such expensive high quality equipment. The fact that they are mirrored means nothing if the top drive (that it mirrors onto the bottom drive) becomes damaged/corrupt. It just mirrors the corruption leaving you with lots of unusable drives. Data recovery is now our only option as our tech support have never seen anything like it and GSafe have terrible customer support and have just stopped bothering to reply to our emails as soon as it became apparent that it wasn't going to be a quick fix.
When they work they are 5 star but with a 5 out of 9 death ratio for us we certainly wont be using them again in future!
