Don't be put off by the flashy styling, or the 'made in China'. I have used one of these drills for heavy trade use every day for over two years and everything, even the batteries, is as good as new. It is light but very powerful and the 3.0AH batteries give excellent run time. I use it for driving timber fixings up to 12" long, drilling any size hole, even a 117mm diamond hole saw in soft brick. I occasionally use it for mixing plaster. It has outperformed and outlasted my Makita and Bosch 18v drills. It needed a gearbox repair last year, individual parts are available and only cost £27 fitted. Highly recommended.

Amazon Verified Purchase
Several adverts for this drill describe it as 'light'. In my opinion it is not. The weight shown on the Amazon listing appears to be wrong. I have weighed this drill on two different sets of scales and they both agree that the drill weighs 5 lbs 5½ ounces or 2415 grammes with battery fitted. My previous 18 volt rechargeable drill weighed 3 lbs 8 ounces. This weight does make the drill slightly tiring to use.
In most other respects I am very happy with the drill. It feels powerful and solid. After several days carrying out relatively minor tasks the battery is still running on its first charge and shows no signs of tiring.
The initial charging was very quick and the VERY large charger unit seems to be well made, although the noisy built in cooling fan seems to be catching on something inside the charger at times which I will probably have to address personally.
The solidly constructed case containing the drill, handle, 2 batteries and charger is large, measuring 46 cm x 41 cm x 11.5 cm. (18 in x 16 in x 4½ in). Unfortunately the drill handle has to be completely removed before the drill can be placed in the case; it would have been very easy to remould the inside of the case to allow the handle to remain on the drill when turned parallel to the handle.
Overall I am very happy with my purchase however if I was on the Hitachi design or marketing team I could definitely make a few minor improvements!

I got the drill in only a few days very quick delivery, I started to use it straight away, it is light ,powerfull and has greath battery life. I have only have it about one month but it is performing very well and i couldnt be more pleased with it.Hitachi DV18DL/JL Cordless Combi Drill (18 Volt, 2 x 3.0 Ah Li-Ion Batteries)
