With 1024 x 1080 resolution, no upscaling to 1080i as its true 1080i. The picture really makes it value for money. On HD, its stunning. I used Monsters HD Setup DVD & then WOW! I was seeing so much more detail. SD signals CAN look good, but it requires you using the right connections & quality cables. For SKY+ i am using a Monster THX RGB & after doing the Calibration, it does look good in SD. In poor broadcasts, you can see imperfection but no matter, black levels are excellent & colour is vibrant. Turn on the XBOX 360 & play Gears of War & prepare to get blown away!
Having the connectons facing down rather than outwards is very awkward. I used a torch & laid on my back to fit my connections! The 2 SCART sockets are RGB enabled, but not capable of S-Video to SCART. The design of the two sockets deserves "Idiot of the Year" award. With my SCART in AVI, its impossible to fit a second SCART cable in AV2 as the first SCART is in the way! I don't really care as other than Sky+, I don't use SCART at all. Only one HDMI which is a shame, but with HDMI hubs available, its not a huge concern. Use the 360 via the VGA. There is also S-Video & Composite. No digital audio inputs but, with surround sound systems, this doesn't bother me. It has an output for a separate Sub Woofer. Sound quality out of the plasma is ok. Good bass from such a thin screen but it does tend to drown out the mids & highs. Just use a surround sound system!
This is a great Plasma & amazing value. I know you can get a 42" LG for a similar price, but it hasn't got the same 1080 resolution this has. HD on this screen is beautiful. The best I have seen at this size. Use a Calibration DVD as it does make a BIG difference. Use quality cables & always use the BEST connection between your hardware & if that means buying hub, then buy the hub! There's no point in having a TV like this & not getting 100% performance out of it from your separates. A component, or HDMI hub is worth its value.
