I've just listened to this joyous album 3 times in a row - where to start? It's brisk, punchy, tuneful punkiness with girly shouty singing and a strand of Fall-style savvy running through it, and succeeds in being a whole lot more than an entertaining yet disposable affair. There's a real depth as well as the exuberance; if Throwing Muses were punkier, they'd sound like this. Believe me, that's a good thing.
The whole thing belts along in immensely satisfying style. The riffs, rhythms and vocals all fit together perfectly, and Krista Loewen's keyboards do exactly what they should do, in holding it all together beautifully without trying to be too clever, best evidenced on "he!she!you!me!they!we!us!ok!" (Party/Die like exclamation marks) and the awesome, uproarious "The Gap".
These days, there aren't many records that have my wizened old body jumping around the living room, but this is one of them. 5 stars it is then.
