The problem with this book (at least if it follows the same format as previous editions) is that it uses monthly charts which are pretty much an artificial invention. It's interesting as far as it goes, but really pretty meaningless as an historical record of actual weekly chart positions. I would recommend instead books which use the proper weekly charts: the new Virgin British Hit Singles due out this autumn for the UK (which replaces the long-running and much-loved Guinness series), or the Billboard equivalent for the US. That way you're getting the actual weekly charts as opposed to made-up lists. I suppose this book is useful if you just want to remember the music that was generally around at some point of your life, but if you want actual weekly chart positions and accurate dates, this is not for you.
