As a teenager I was a huge fan of Point Horrors. I devoured them. I'd get out ten from a library and read them all in a matter of weeks. They were the only things I read.
When I discovered there was a Point Horror on my shelf that I had neglected to read I picked it up and began. Hit and Run by R L Stine - reading this would be like returning to being a teenager again.
Hit and Run is about four friends who go out driving and knock over a man. It's a very simple story told with two dimensional characters and with little heart and passion.
I found this to be a disappointment. It was boring, unrealistic and just plain silly. I guessed the killer and motive from the first chapter and as I was reading it I kept thinking, surely the character is going to have to wake up to realise it is a dream because this is just dumb.
I contemplated my cynical attitude being because I was just a little too old for these kinds of novels but I don't think so. There are numerous faults with this novel and I would have picked on them as a young teen.
I have given this book two stars but it really only deserves one and a half. I would not recommend it. There are so many superior novels about than this one - including many written by this author, R L Stine.
