Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

The History Of Rock arrives as the sort of superstardom-celebrating release that can buy a hot-selling artist time. (Think, say, G N'R Lies.) After 8 million (and counting) sales of 1998's Devil Without A Cause, the trailer-rockin' rapper is out to remind the world that it hardly started there. Mostly drawn, and often retooled, from his out-of-print Polyfuze Method and Early Mornin' Stoned Pimp, these tracks display a "funk country hick" already on point with his knowing, hardheaded combo of old-school beats and classic-rock guitars. An "American bad ass" for sure, but also an artist who could come only from America, Kid Rock brings the noise--not to mention the bread and the circus. --Rickey Wright

CD Description

Now a veteran of the rap/rock game, Kid Rock's HISTORY... includes tunes from his out of print albums THE POLYFUZE METHOD (1993) and EARLY MORNIN' STONED PIMP (1996), plus old demos and two new tracks. (The early material has been re-recorded because the master tapes are missing.) Either way, the songs here are strong enough to hold up on their own, while showing the roots of a talented artist.
On "American Bad Ass", Kid proudly proclaims his influences (AC/DC, Limp Bizkit, Korn, The Stones, Grandmaster Flash and David Allan Coe, among others). Over a Metallica "Sad But True" sample, Kid also proclaims his seven-times-platinum status (after 1998's DEVIL WITHOUT A CAUSE). A straight rap tune, "I Wanna Go Back" has Rock reminiscing and wishing he could change some of his early mistakes, while "Born 2 Be A Hick" is a 50's stylerocker, where he proudly displays his trailer park roots. HISTORY... may not be as strong an album as DEVIL..., but hiship hop skills, a formidable band, and great hooks still make it a mandatory listen for fans of this genre.

5.0 out of 5 stars This album ROCKS!!!, 28 Jan 2001
By A Customer
I first heard of Kid Rock in 1998. Since then I have become obsessed with his music. From American Badass to My Oedipus Complex, this album ROCKS!!! Compared to Devil Without A Cause, History of Rock doesn't quite cut it. But anyway it is still a brilliant album and I can't wait until the next one!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best album in the world, 28 Dec 2000
By A Customer
Wow! What a fantastic album! Easily the best CD I have ever heard! I first saw Kid Rock on WWF Raw is War, and was really impressed by 'American Bad Ass' (the track rocks), and so I bought the album and found that all of the other tracks are as good as, if not better than 'Bad Ass'. If you are into music by people like Limp Bizkit, you will love this album. It really is brilliant, and it will keep your head banging from 'Bad Ass' right through to 'My Oedipus Complex'. I strongly recommend you buy this album!

5.0 out of 5 stars BRILLIANT A MIXTURE OF MOTOWN AND ROCK COMBINED IN ONE, 5 Oct 2001
Kid Rocks album THE HISTORY of rock has got to be one of the most unique rock albums ever released. The album is a mixture of hard rock, like the song Dark and Grey to smooth hip hop and soul in the song Early Morning Stoned Pimp. The lyrics are explicit but they match with the song. Top tunes all round, definately worth a buy.

2.0 out of 5 stars No where near as good as Devil Without A Cause
Compare to Devil... I found this album very bland. None of the tracks, apart from the first one stuck in my mind, despite numerous listens. To be honest, I was disappointed.
