I'll tell you why this is just that good. It's because it is prepared, researched, assembled and presented with love! You might have heard some or even a lot of these songs, even if you have just a passing interest in the genre. you might know a lot about the history, both social and musical, because it's your bag. But never will you have experienced this stuff in this way before. This whole package is a template for the way forward in listening to old records in a modern context. I don't need to wax lyrical about the delights on offer here, i guess that you will know already, what i will say is this....it's the best set currently available, it's astonishingly good value, it's got quality written all over it, the kind of quality that only comes about with the involvement of people who know and care about what they're doing and you'll want to lean it up right next to your hi fi equipment because your mates need to know about it too. if you've got a few quid more than you want to keep, let the good times roll!

Well what a set this one is... it is not JUST the music that makes it so valuable (I nearly wrote important)...The 68 page booklet (fully illustrated with labels, photos and billboards) is an exemplar of how these things should be done. Each individual track comes with a textual analysis and full recording details ... the wealth of information presented is both impressive and delightful. Impressive because of the volume of research that must have been undertaken to produce the text and delightful because of the fascinating information delivered to the reader, particularly in the context of the sequencing of the tracks...there is more information here than will often be found in some books purporting to discuss the genre. In summary then, this set and its associated documentation is strongly recommended both because of the quality of its content and style of music and because of the loving care that has been applied. All this for [...] plus p&p. What are you waiting for?
Ian McKenzie Blues & Rhythm Sep 2010

Breathtaking collection of vintage greats - While not wishing to belittle the magnificent earlier releases, the third voume of this does-what-it-says-on-the-tin series may garner more general interest, covering as it does the emergence of rock'n'roll. As such, more major players are represented than before, though the compilers have neatly segregated the 109 tracks into sub-genres.Disc One takes care of the gritty blues merchants,...followed by a disc of arguably more populist and more radio-friendly fare...Disc Three is perhaps more adventurous, trawling the doo wop archives for forgotten gems...The final disc explores what is to all intents and purposes, the birth of soul...bringing a new sophistication to pop. Brilliantly packaged with a detailed 68-page booklet, it's hard to think of a music fan who wouldn't want this in their collection.
Terry Staunton Record Collector Summer 2010

A great 109 tracks ... hugely entertaining ... ease back and luxuriate in the warm flow of mostly black sounds.
Geoff Brown - Mojo

Lovely package containing some of the best music ever put onto wax ... excellent booklet helping the story along... an absolute banquet for those following the series and an excellent place to begin your journey if this is all a bit new to you.
Red Lick

A multi-genre, colour-blind, cross-label and highly inclusive collection... beautifully packaged...should be in any intelligent music library... extensive scene-setting notes with pointed biographies of the artist/songs -- delivers a history lesson with a helluva backbeat... Essential music by any measure, in a box set which does it justice and best of all, it rocks like a mother.
Elsewhere.co.nz

A compulsory purchase ... captivating sixty-page essay
Alan Clayson - Ugly Things

Excellent presentation, beautiful artwork, good sound quality, expert commentary, extremely listenable. It places the music in a kind of framework in which we can better organize our thoughts on rhythm and blues and will probably provide the means for future generations to explore the music further.
