Product Description

Product Description

Available in both one-volume and two-volume paperback editions, A History of Modern Europe presents a panoramic survey of modern Europe from the Renaissance to the present day. A single author lends a unified approach and consistent style throughout, with an emphasis on the connections of events and people over time. The Third Edition, like the two before it, is authoritative and up-to-date. New to the Third Edition is the theme of empire. From the imperial rivalries between France and Spain in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, through the rise and fall of the Ottoman Turkish empire, and on into the imperial history of the twentieth century decolonization, the spread of the Soviet empire, and the imperial power of the United States the theme of empire helps students find commonalities among the events of European history.

He regularly teaches the survey of modern European history at Yale. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Perfect for Students! 27 Nov 2006
By LuLu
Format:Paperback
I have rated this item 5 stars! Merriman's book has proven to be one of the best purchases I have ever made! I am a first year student at university and this book has helped me wondefully in my study of European History 1870-1945. Merriman has broken down the topic areas into "easy to manage" chunks, which has made reading it an absolute pleasure and it is easy to find information! Absolutely ideal for students or those who have a passion for history!

I can't believe this book only has one review so far. It is a fantastic book, brilliantly written. I have never found a book that presents history in such an easy to follow way. I can't put it down which for me is strange for a book that is academic (as opposed to popular). I would give it more stars if I could!
