an excellent incisive and fairly comprehensive history of italian cinema from the silent era to the present.the author goes into great depth and covers many of the different genres and not just the 'obvious' classics that make up italian movies.if you are into movies from a truly international perspective-which i definately am-then i would highly reccomend this book.a massive wealth of information is provided with regards to many different film directors, lesser known films-at least outside of italy-and lesser known genres e.g the peplums,giallis,comedy,police/crime,etc as well as the italian western, classic auteurs such as fellini, bertolucci that are better known.the book makes a fascinating history and proves that there are so many great films waiting to be discovered outside of italy that have been produced in the past that belong to all the different genres mentioned and are mentioned in the text.
