When I opened my parcel I was initially disappointed in this book. It is a plain blue book (no dust cover - no picture on the front as seen in the listing). There are no colour plates inside, it is a text book rather than a coffee table read.

Delving into the contents however, I continued to delve and realised that an hour had passed. It is a fascinating book. All off the specific questions in my head (ie: why do I hold needles differently to my friends, what's "naalbindning") found an answer in this book.

It is an absorbing source book on both the craft of knitting itself and social history. I'm very glad I bought it.

My copy has arrived today, and it has a red hardback cover and dustcover, with a picture of the author.....in a very brave cardigan( not words that often go together) My copy does have colour plates and a lot of black and white ones. Very high quality plates, very clear and very useful to me as I am a historical reenactor and crafts person by trade. This was a book recommended by another historical knitter, and deserves it's good reputation. If you want facts, figures, dates and instructions in a book that is well written and fascinating to read with some cracking pictures, this is it. Sorry to gush but I am chuffed to death with this book.
