Book Description

A Short History of the Steam Engine, first published in 1939, remains one of the most readable on the topic for the non-specialist. Dickinson limits himself to stationary engines and boilers. The many illustrations and lucid text make this book a pleasure for both engineer and historian.

Format: Paperback
This book was written before the second world war and the language is typical of the period. The author assumes that the reader is well versed very in mechanics and maths, but, having said that, it is an interesting read. Those familiar with the history of the steam engine will probably know most of the details given but for those new to the subject, the book does give a potted history of the steam engine and is not too complicated.
