4.0 out of 5 stars A delightful walking tour of historic Bankside., 4 Jun 2001

This review is from: An Historical Walk Through William Shakespeare's London (Paperback)
The little booklet guides you through a delightful tour of Shakespeare's Bankside. The author's vivid historic descriptions are in sharp contrast to the new development and construction. You'll discover many nooks and crannies, and historic inns and pubs where you can stop for a drink and rest a while.

Andrew Walker "Andrew Walker" (Glasgow, Scotland) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: An Historical Walk Through William Shakespeare's London (Paperback)
I blame Joseph Fiennes. And Gwyneth Paltrow. If "Shakespeare in Love" hadn't been my favourite film I would never have wasted £1.99 on this book. Let's coem striaght to the point: the accurate title would be "A Walk Around Bankside - including The Globe theatre and 2 or 3 things Shakespeare may (or may not) have seen). It is (as far as I can judge) a more or less competent short tour of the area, even if it cannot resist trotting out the old one about the Americans buying the old London Bridge under the impression it was Tower Bridge. There is next to nothing on Shakespeare's time in the Blackfriars area and no mention of him living in the London Wall area.

Buy if you want a short walking tour guide but if your interest is in Shakespeare then avoid.
