In Engish "A history of the Civil War which will please nobody" - a really good read with no pontification! In truth the writer really shows what a sad and unnecessary event the war was. But very entertaining!

Very interesting! 14 May 2013

This is a very enjoyable read, but it doesn't seem to bring any new light on the Spanish tragedy, at least not for anybody having read a lot in that area. It is good as a relatively unprejudiced introduction to the history of that conflict. I would certainly recommend it to beginners before they get into more detailed and scholarly works. I would like to recommend Stanley G. Payne's several books, although I feel that, at times, his catholicism trumps his objectivity.
