5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant!, 28 Jun 2008

Mr. B. Williams "Bryn" (Wales, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: His Lordship (Paperback)
I was given "His Lordship" to read whilst in hospital recovering from having my appendix removed; that was in the early 1970s. I'm not sure if it was such a good idea, because being "in stitches" whilst literally being "in stitches" was very painful indeed! It is the story of a male tennis coach at a girls boarding school; he tells his story from a remand cell! It went to show that we mere males simply don't stand a chance when it comes to the guiles and wiles of the female of the species! I have been hooked on Leslie Tomas ever since and read many of his books, including "His Lordship" over and over again. He is the best story-teller of all time. What makes him so readable is his ability to so sensitively combine humour, pathos and sex; one moment his books reduce one to tears - in the next one is laughing out loud.

5.0 out of 5 stars His Lordship, 6 July 2011
This review is from: His Lordship (Paperback)
I was given a copy of this book early in 1973 when I was a19yr old student teacher. The girl who gave me the book was a year above me at college and she intended it to be a useful lesson for me for the future!
Fantastic book- one of the funniest I have ever read. I still have the paperback copy- much treasured and often revisited. It is now falling apart and I am hoping that soon it will be available in e-book format. Come on, Kindle!

5.0 out of 5 stars Lolita was no Goody Two Shoes, 30 April 2011

His Lordship
This is the sixth copy of this book I have owned, as I have lent it to others and not had it returned.
The theme is echoed in other books, such as "Passionflower Hotel" and, whilst not exactly promoting paedophilia, has some sympathy for those males who are "tempted" by nubile young teenage females.
It plays with the idea of the Huntress acting as the prey to catch the "supposed" Hunter and revels in the idea that Men are the weaker sex, they just don't know it.
