A beautiful book which is lovely to sit and browse through. Will have pride of place on the coffee table or bookcase. If you buy the book for this reason, you will be delighted.

One criticism, however. I'm not sure I would recommend this book as a travel guide to use to plan a holiday. For a start, despite its size only around eighty hotels in the world are included, which means many destinations are not featured or have only one option listed. Also pictures feature rather more prominently than text.

This atlas is a pure delight. Just a look through its pages would make you feel relaxed and motivated to try, explore and open up to the world. The strongest part in the book is its breathtaking colourful photography - you would almost certainly feel a chill down your spine, forgetting about any troubles you might have. A combination of beautiful oriental fabrics and crafted wooden statues, blue sky, glowing atmospheric lighting, crispy white bed linen and shimmering patterns all create an aura of peace and show the world in its colour and versatility.

Just as well, the writing makes the atlas complete by describing the places in a very chilled-out manner, mixing it with some history and travel advice. An excellent book to get you into an inspiring frame of mind.

A fantastic complement to the series 15 May 2007

My wife and I consult Ypma's books whenever we're planning a trip. We consider them indispensable. So important in fact, that we often choose one destination over another based on the availabilty of a "hip hotel."

We've never been disappointed.

The atlas serves a a kind of compendium, or the "best of" hip hotels around the world.

As such, it's a terrific resource.

But even if you never leave home, it's such a beautifully produced book that you can derive considerable enjoyment just be leafing through the pages.
