Valuable text, poor printing 30 May 2014
By Noah - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
This is Gandhi's translation, but this edition is grossly unprofessional. It contains multiple obvious spelling errors and error marks (It took me a few times to realize Gandhi wasn't actually inserting question marks in the middle of his sentences). If you want the text for free you can find it at www.forget-me.net/en/Gandhi/ - you are just getting charged 10$ for what your home printer can do just as easily.

In terms of content, this book is broad but relatively light. The language is not overbearing, but Gandhi's ideas are. It appears, contrary to popular conception that Gandhi does not actually advocate the English decolonization. Instead what he wants to achieve is a sort of personal emancipation from Western oppression. This oppression substitutes logic and corporeal desires for the traditional indian prioritization of the spiritual or soul.

Amazing ideas that could be utilized to an extent to better today's world. Worthy of reading over and over again to gain every possible positive idea.

Gandhi is a bit hard to take in this little book. He rails against all modernity including railways, western medicine, and western education. This is a good book for the student to trace the origins of Gandhism as referenced in his recommendation of other works to read.

Highly utopian and not very practical. Based on incomplete understanding of histoy. It is generally dismissive of historical truths and based on purely based on one man's belief systems

I have to say this is one of my favorite books. I have read many books about the Mahatma, but you will have to read his own accounts to really understand who he is, and how he lived.
