Hills Prescription Diet Feline S/D for the Nutritional Management of Pets with Struvite Related Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease (FLUTD).FLUTD is a problem often involving the formation of mineral-based crystals and stones in your cats urinary tract that can cause a variety of painful symptoms, including obstruction. Struvite and oxalate are the two most common crystals that form in a cats urinary tract. Hills Prescription Diet Feline S/D was developed to provide nutritional management of cats with struvite-related FLUTD. Struvite crystals and stones form as a result of urine that is over-burdened with magnesium, ammonium and phosphorus as well as an alkaline urinary pH.Indications:Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease (FLUTD)Struvite uroliths dissolution.Key Benefits:Energy - Increased - Reduces food intake and thereby mineral intake. Magnesium Phosphorus Protein - Reduced - Decreases urinary concentration of struvite constituents,magnesium and phosphate. Calcium - Reduced - Reduces the risk of calcium oxalate forming. Target urinary pH Acid: pH 5.9-6.1 - Increases the solubility of struvite. Vitamin E Beta-carotene - High - Reduces harmful free radicals to help combat urolithiasis. Vitamin C is not supplemented because it is a precursor of oxalate and may increase the risk of calcium oxalate formation with diets for struvite dissolution.
