The heliers motor vehicle fundermentals book 1, is one of the best studybooks i have ever used. It gives you detailed infomation on how vehicle components work and what they are for without getting too complicated and describes in such an easyway youd couldent belive you didnt understand it before. Now i have dyslexia and I used other study books that i didnt really understand but the heliers book helped me so much that i proberly wouldent have passed Motor vehilces level 1 at college. the book gets straight to the point with an easy to use index and titled paragraphs id recommend this to anyone studying motor vehicle at college or even if you just want to learn somthing new and you dont realy need to know alot about cars to understand this book unlike any other books. Hope this helps guys & gals

The exams for any of the IMI qualifications in Britain are written to the material given in this book. ANY question you will encounter on the phase tests or the exams will have an exact answer in this book. The IMI is better than C&G awarding body on the basis that it forces research, it forces you to read this book and find and understand the answers for yourself and I am a better qualified level 2 mechanic because of it (still studying level 3).
This book is every aspiring mechanic and automotive engineer's bible. The English is not too complicated which can be an incredibly headache for people who just want to sit and read to catch up but end up with a book that had a sentence within a sentence that digresses mid-sentence.
Plenty of diagrams, cross sectional diagrams and references to the diagrams so you know what you're looking at and also that you know what you're reading if it is describing a difficult-to-explain-without-diagrams part/component or process.
Apart from the fact that it is Americanised: Britain and America have their own terminology regarding the subject, so it can be slightly confusing if you haven't got a lecturer to set you straight. Though I personally rarely encounter a problem.
I still flinch when I see the price but they are well worth the money. Every single one of them! Due to having to move across the country and nowhere local doing the IMI level 3 I am forced to do a C&G level 3 and this book is a lot more in depth than what my current awarding body asks for so I go into my exams very well prepared. If you are a mechanic wanting to increase your knowledge or a student/potential student then you should not be without this book! It leaves no stone unturned, no bolt un-torqued!

Hilliers Book 1 - 5th edition
This book is a must for those on Motor Vehicle courses. It gives just the right amount of information & is backed up with clear diagrams.
