Arhoolie have compiled a superb sampler album here which never fails to entertain your ears, from the word go. J.E.Mainer's Mountaineers buzzsaw violins swoop in and carry you though a superb lineup, past Uncle John Pattersons bluesy pickin' and rockabilly piano, Del McCoury's rollicking workouts ending with the legendary Carter Family.

It's hard to pick a single standout, there are artists here how have remained "lost" despite undoubted talent, saddest of all Rose Maddox who recently departed this earth makes light work of despatching most every female country singer you've ever heard of on "Sally Let Your Bangs Hang Down".

Buying this album will nodoubt lead you down country lanes you've never trodden - searching for more music by the artists feature.

This is a good mixture of bluegrass and hillbilly styles with some likeable tracks. The Armstrong twins steal the show here though with a couple of fine tracks sung in true hillbilly style. If any one knows of any other recordings by these guys then please let me know.
