I had this book bought for me as a small child in bed with whooping cough. I loved it and this book gave me a love of the written word and the English Language. I bought the book for my daughter when she was a small child and she wore it out, so she did have two copies in all. I was thrilled to come across a copy for my Grand-children. I have quite a few classics in my collection now, just waiting for the Grandchild(children!)
A sight of a by-gone time for occur children and the chance to gift them with a love of the English language

I loved this as a child, and have just bought a copy for my granddaughter...and how the pictures come back to me!
A lot of the scenes and characters are quite medieval in appearance - the traveller in his cloak in 'Twinkle, twinkle Little Star'; the witch-like crone flying over a village of Tudor houses in 'There Was An Old Woman Tossed Up In A Basket'; the country lad in his smock and straw hat in 'Lavender's Blue'. There are umpteen nursery rhyme books on the market but this has such character - I love the way Hilda Boswell adds little touches to her pictures - there's often little sprites looking on; mice in the corner of the baker's shop etc.
Contains a whole host of verse, from the well-known nursery rhymes to poems like 'The Owl and the Pussy Cat' and 'Wynken, Blynken and Nod'.
Every child should have a copy!

We had a book like this for our children when they were little. It got lost or thrown away. How pleased we were to see this again. As we have our new grandchild, I look forward to many hours reading it with him. Thank you.

I had this book when I was little and I think it's how I learnt to read. My daughter now has the same book (my old one) but it's falling apart. She's reading it each night just before bed and I think its weaving it's magic again! just like it did with me. It definately brings back memory's, the illustrations are fantastic and it's just like an old friend.

I have had this book since I was very small. Unfortunately I scribbled all over many of the pages in biro!
The illustrations are beautiful and colourful. Whenever I open it I'm transported back to my safe childhood world of simple pleasures.
