Book Description

3 Mar 2014 Hildafolk
Hilda is sat in her tent, dwarfed by volumes of the Greater Fjords Wildlife Chronicles with a flashlight and her restless companion, Twig, but Hilda's not in the Fjords and it isn't raining. Hilda's pitched a tent in her room and it's been days since she's been out. In Hilda's new adventure, she meets the Nisse: a mischievous but charismatic bunch of misfits who occupy a world beside but also somehow within our own, and where the rules of physics don't quite match up. Meanwhile, on the streets of Trolberg, a dark spectre looms...

Review

'[Hilda's world] is... a glorious, exciting if also rather menacing place one children will be eager to enter. It's also visually arresting: exuberant and lively and faintly Miyazakian' --New York Times

'For adults ... Pearson's measured storytelling ... and detailed, imaginative artwork make Hilda and the Bird Parade an absolute treat to dive into. It's hard to imagine a better all-ages comic will be published this year.' --Slate

Another great by Luke and Hilda. This has the same other-worldly feel as their previous outings with monsters and spirits, real and imagined, and Hilda's attempts to fit in with the more everyday world. Fortunately she lives more on the edge of the mundane reality of town life. My 7 year old daughter is wearing out the current books with re-reading so hopefully there are more stories to come soon.

Love!I came across Hilda and the Troll, whilst searching for some new Graphic Novels and yup I'm certainly no child, but you don't have to be to enjoy the Hilda series - this is even better than the last - cute, funny and entertaining, hope you enjoy it as much as I!

3.0 out of 5 stars Cute 28 Jun 2014
Format:Hardcover
This is the 4th book in this series and I haven't read any of the others but I think I would have felt more comfortable if I had. By reading I have the impression that Hilda (and her town) are not exactly altogether human, strange things happen there, and everyone takes it all within stride. This book has Hilda joining the Sparrow Scouts, obviously to give her something to do with all her extra energy and imagination. But during this time a large hound has been roaming, and sited, in the woods beyond Trolberg. The Sparrows go camping on private Sparrow ground which has been walled off from the rest of the forest making everyone sure the girls will be perfectly safe from this supposed "creature". At the same time Hilda has come across a Nisse, a house spirit, which has been kicked out of its home. Hilda becomes friends with him, helping him to find a new home and together they manage to both find him a home and solve the mystery of the Black Hound. Cute drawings. A fun fantasy, a bit short, but it keeps you reading quickly. I wouldn't mind having read the first ones because I think if read in order, you may be fond of Hilda by this point.

5.0 out of 5 stars More world building! 3 Jun 2014

Pearson really expands his fictional world here with the introduction of not only the Nisse but also this sidelong dimension that they occupy. He does a great job of telling a complete story but then leaving a number of loose ends unresolved that he can come back to later or just leave to the reader's imagination. My *only* complaint is the explanation of how the messes of all the houses were made. How do you drag things into or out of a hole unless they're sticking to you somehow, or you're actively pushing them out? Aside from that, though, this was perfect with a perfect ending.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pearson continues to improve! 22 Aug 2014

In book four in the HILDA series, Pearson continues to chronicle the adventures of a blue-haired little girl growing up in a magical town. The cover is a spectacular work of art. The magical characters are funny. Despite the strange goings-on, everything feels somehow realistic. This book does not disappoint.

Surprised more people haven't posted favorably. Started with this book and it's really excellent. I read it with my boys and they loved Hilda and the hound (when he's finally revealed),
