The book is compact, well structured and easy to follow and pretty much does what it says on the 'tin'. However, as expected with Lonely Planet (L.P.), a bit too many dodgy historical comments with a typically P.C. slant. This greatly annoys me to the point were I would advise L.P. to keep to the actual theme (i.e. Hiking in Ireland) and avoid to much historical and/or political opinion!

This book isn't useless, but there are some problems with maps
and trailheads of the more obscure and difficult trails. Part of
the problem is with Ireland itself. Ireland is notorious for it's
casual approach to signage and this book does very little to overcome
this obstacles. It's good for an overview of where you can hike, but
take care to get OS maps and consult local hiking shops before you
venture out on your own.
