Nevil Shute has been an author with whom I can always rely on, and this book does not dissapoint. From the very beginning, I could not put it down. It contains everything you could want from a fiction book, suspense, romance and most importantly fantasies. I would highly recommend this book to anyone, no matter what their tastes or preferences are.

A Raindeer airplane crashes in Labrador after a little less than 1440 flying hours. In the official report the accident is ascribed to pilot error but Denis Scott at the Royal Aircraft Establishment in Farnborough is not convinced that this explanation is true. Neither does Theodore Honey, a slightly eccentric member of Scott's staff, who has an as yet unproved theory that the tail plane of the Raindeer is bound to succumb to metal fatigue after 1440 hours in the air. What if Honey's experiments prove him to be right?

The reader for this audiobook is Robin Bailey and his performance is very good.

Shute is perhaps the best known of English authors of the 20th century concerning tales with an aviation bias. Slightly dated now, they still read beautifully. For fans of Shute might I suggest that you try John Templeton Smith's "White Lie" and "Saigon Express", which in their own way carry on a tradition of the best of British. Curiously enough Smith attended the same English school (Shrewsbury) as Nevil Shute Norway (albeit many years later). Must have had some pretty good English masters at that noble institution!
