Review
"To have an exceptional child you must be willing to have an exceptional child. You have one. And this book will teach you how to raise him to be not only exeptional, but healthy, loving, well-adjusted, and happy." Elaine N. Aron, Ph.D. Praise for The Highly Sensitive Person: 'This remarkable book speaks clearly to highly sensitive people. It gives a fresh perspective, a sigh of relief, and a good sense of where we belong in society.' JOHN GRAY, author of Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus

Product Description
15-20 per cent of children are highly sensitive - and they are often labelled shy, introverted, fussy or faddy. The real story is very different though and this practical book helps parents know what to do, when to back off, and how to ensure their child is given the right sort of treatment at school. It provides parents with insights and information so they can understand high sensitivity, and help their highly sensitive child thrive in the world. It is important for these children to be understood so they can be helped to avoid the common traps of shyness and withdrawal that many highly sensitive children fall into as they develop. It contains a questionnaire for parents to find out if their child has the traits common in highly sensitive children. It also discusses HSC's at different ages - infant, toddler, school-age and adolescent.

4.0 out of 5 stars An eyeopener, 27 Nov 2004
By A Customer
This is a very good book for those of us with highly sensitive children. It deals quite well with the group of children, who are highly sensitive, but also have a lot of get up and go, and who may miss out on being treated as sensitive kids. My son and I are both in this category and this book has helped me understand him better with improved relationship as a result.

4.0 out of 5 stars Helpful, but not without a guilt trip, 29 Jan 2007
A very interesting and at times helpful read. Having come to the concept of highly sensitive children somewhat late in the day for my 4 year old son I found this book enlightening, but at the same time slightly pushing my guilt buttons for not having understood him sooner. Only wish I'd read it sooner. Much of the advice the author offers I'd somehow found through trial and error and used with some success over the years, but life could potentially been so much easier for child and parents had we had a few early pointers. Would definitely recommend to parents of an unusually fretful, "colicky" baby. Potentially very helpful for parents of older children showing the classic signs of sensitivity - child startles easily, hates loud noises, "shy", hesitant in new situations, issues with food, etc. - but be prepared to raise your guilt threshold. This tone of this book is very much aimed at helping you to understand your child, not solve a "problem." The author is careful to stress the many positive character traits of a sensitive individual which is refreshing - although after a bad day with a difficult 4 year old, not always easy to remember!

4.0 out of 5 stars Very useful, 19 Jun 2007
Found book quite enlightening. As a non sensitive person, it has helped me to understand my five year old daughter much better and to be much more patient with her when she is overwhelmed by a situation. I wish I would have read it before.
