Book Description

Elena MacFarland wonders what everyone else knows about her new farm that she doesn’t, and whether she’ll live long enough to find out. Betrayed by her fiancé and the powerful Worthington family, Elena fights back and negotiates a comfortable settlement with one small caveat: she must live in Scotland for two years. One kidnapping and two attempts on her life later, the darkly arrogant Scot, Faolan MacGailtry declares himself her new protector and moves into her farmhouse. Major problem? He was present at all three incidents. Elena decides to follow the adage to keep her friends close and enemies closer—but which is he? One by one, Elena uncovers Faolan’s darkest secrets: his Druid heritage, his connection to her past, and finally, the deadly curse that is powerful enough to destroy them both.

Reader notes: This is the first book of the Highland Destiny series and includes multiple paranormal elements, including Druidry, Fae, shapeshifting and magick. Heat level warning: slowly builds from extreme sexual tension toward full erotic romance.

Elena's life has just been turned upside down. All her carefully laid plans set for after passing the bar exam ruined. Now she has a chance to start over again in Scotland with a house and land she received from a settlement. It seems like a good deal, but things begin to go wrong from the time she leaves Arizona. It all begins with a run-in with a highlander named Faolan who has his own agenda. She discovers her life is in danger, but can she trust a strange man to help keep her safe or is he part of the problem? The chemistry between them certainly makes it difficult to push him away.

I was drawn into this story from the beginning. The characters were intriguing and it had a lot of suspense that made me keep reading to find out what happened next. Elena and Foalan were clearly meant for each other, but they had a lot of things working against them. You're kept wondering for awhile as to what is really going on that they aren't revealing. There is plenty of action, romance, and even humor as the story progresses to keep it from ever being dull. Readers familiar with Karen Marie Moning's Highlander/Fever series will notice some similarities in the Fae mythology used in this book, though it takes a slightly different slant.

This wasn't a novel I could easily predict the outcome. It had a lot of twists and turns in the plot, along with being considerably longer than expected. This was a good thing since it was enjoyable in most ways. The only problem with some of the twists was that a few didn't jive for me. Such as Elena discovering important information that she knew Faolan desperately needed and then keeping it from him until too late. She knew time was of the essence and yet she cited doubt in her discoveries as her reasoning for not telling him.

3.0 out of 5 stars See You Jimmy! Och aye the noo! 9 Mar. 2015

How I finished up reading this is a mystery to me, but I enjoyed the depth of imagination and how it all tied in at the end.
However, I would bring to task the author on her attempts to project a Scottish accent. There is no such word as "doona"
and if she had carried out a little more in depth research she would have discovered that English people will say such things as "dinna ken"
in a pleasantly derogative way, just for fun. It is in fact "I don't know" and in all acceptable literature it is the accepted way to project a Scot saying so. "I dinna ken" as opposed to "doona ken". As a Scot I'm a little offended by this and feel that any self respecting author would seek to portray a Scottish personality with descriptive phrasing rather than this clumsy pseudo verbal approach.
For example, how would you place the phrase "Och aye the noo!" which makes no sense at all but is beloved of my English friends as a greeting to me. " Hulloo Jock! Och aye the noo, dae ye ken!" Great fun, totally nonsensical and in my mind has no place in good well written literature.

Poorly written and a very dull story. I can speed read and will normally finish a book regardless of how bad it is.... It speaks volumes that I could not be bothered to finish this. I would not recommend this book even if free and now want to remove from my cloud, let alone my device

3.0 out of 5 stars Sorry 23 Jan. 2014

I struggled to finish this book and I dont know if its partialy because I am scottish and got annoyed by the inaccuracies relating to being in Scotland. The attempts at Scottish 'language' were wrong, never hear of the word 'doona' and I would love to know where you can go into a furniture shop one day and order a whole house worth of furniture and get it delivered the next day, especially in the highlands of Scotland. I think a bit bit of basic research e.g. flying from Heathrow to Edinburgh first class, sorry only one class and to get to Inverness you would fly direct not go to Edinburgh and drive! better to stick to an area you know or do a bit or research it.
