I bought this as a text book for my son (and me!) who is taking the AQA paper this year. He's home-educated so I was looking for something that was pretty comprehensive and clear to work from. I've found this text a great help as it starts each topic from clear simple beginnings and proceeds step by step to more complex matters. There's a good index which means it's easy to locate information. There are loads of exercises, and each section ends with a review which includes questions from past papers.

At first glance, I found it slightly dull with its monochrome pages and also intimidatingly thick, but now that I have got to know it am very impressed.

I'm currently enrolled on a Mathematics GCSE course at night college and this is the recommended text, from which the vast majority of our classroom exercises are drawn.

It's a good book with clear and concise information, exercises, 'what you need to know' sections and review sections. Although the answers are provided at the back of the book, they don't explain the methods used so sometimes it's difficult to know where you went wrong, because only the answers are provided. That's the only real criticism I have of the book.
