Synopsis
Ross (Rufus Sewell, A Knight's Tale) needs a plan. As a member of an exceedingly eccentric British family on a large country estate in the western United States, he decides what he must do to earn his own fortune - sell the family wine stock and purchase a local manganese mine. But when Ross's girlfriend Kendal (Minnie Driver) comes to visit, his wise Uncle Cullen (Nigel Hawthorne, The Madness of King George) uses Kendal as a pawn in a scheme to help Ross find his true purpose in life.

What I like about this movie very much is the beautiful location and the fact that it is not an action-packed movie. Instead the story unfolds very slowly. It is the type of movie where you need to listen carefully to the conversations and also read a bit between the lines at times. The film has got some funny bits in it, which is nice, but if I had to use just one word to describe it then I would say atmospheric. A movie to watch if you feel like relaxing. The guitar piece in the middle of the movie is also very nice.

Everything about this movie is perfect. The landscapes and the house, the gardens, the music, the swift camera moves, the entire atmosphere and the irrestible characters. If I had to pick a movie to live in, it would definitely be this one. We meet Ross who is struggling to keep his apparently mad family afloat. But he is soon made to realize that he is the one "running around like a monkey on drugs" and HE is the one with the problem. I had to laugh out loud quite a few times as poor Ross is having quite a hard time going through the emotional journey. Everybody in the movie is extroardinary and things move forward smoothly. This is a very funny movie about the meaning of love and life. Not bad, huh! The actors are so splendid that each line delivered is a quote. WATCH IT!
