I watched this on VHS recently, this is an early 90s Movie focusing on Race, Prejudice, College and Sexism. The Movie mainly follows Malik; a Runner who struggles through College and is the main focus of the Film. Remy, an awkward, quiet outsider kid who finds a "Brotherhood" in a group on Violent, Nazi Skinheads and also Kristen, who's rape whilst at College leads to her questioning her sexuality and opinions on people in general. The Movie is also backed with great performances by Ice Cube (who plays long-time student Fudge), Busta Rhymes, Larry Fishbourne and Jennifer Connelly (who plays a lesbian sexist activist), and what all escalates as these personalities meet and converge into their own friendships, which are primarily Race-related and, at times, volatile towards outsiders.
I think Higher Learning is a great "College" Movie, tackling sensitive issues that have been addressed really well in the Film and is extremely reminiscent of Boys N The Hood.
Compelling, must-see viewing for anybody over 15!

By Jay
Youngsters from different countries, races, and social background are forced to integrate when they all enroll in Columbus University. They all have their own problems, such as finance, harrassment, personal safety, and self doubt. Additionally, campus life seems to be causing a problem for everyone: racism. Students, already under pressure to perform in the classroom, on the track, or in front of their friends, are strained to the breaking point by prejudice, inexperience, and misunderstanding.

This is a Brilliaint film!

Singleton kicks ass in this directing effort! I'm from the generation that grew up with everything he directed after 'Baby Boy', so I thought I should get some more of his movies. Higher Learning DID NOT DISAPPOINT.
Omar Epps plays his character with great conviction and innocence (when the time arises) and I can see why Tyra caused such a stir in 'THAT' scene, yeas she was young but you didnt see any booty or boobies so CHILL OUT! lol
Watching Tyra's death scene was one of the most harrowing scenes in a movie I've ever seen to date (okay, apart from Queen Latifah in Set it off).
Once you get over THAT part this movie is essentially about the tolerance or lack of within a world where one group is made to feel a lesser entity than another...and the consequence of their radical actions.
Very thought provoking and sad in parts . . .
