Product Description

The bestselling series continues . . .

As Kit Shannon defends a down and outer named Mousy Malloy on the charge of attempted murder, she also takes on the case of a woman whose young son is tragically killed by a Los Angeles trolley. Was the death of little Sammy Franklin an accident? Or could it have been avoided?

The trolley case pits Kit against a powerful coalition of railroad men and politicians—all of whom seem to have something to hide ... a secret Kit must uncover in order to win.

As these two cases move forward, it becomes clear there is some sort of connection—one that could blow the lid off a conspiracy of corruption. And a web of powerful people who will stop at nothing to keep Kit from finding the truth.

Another historical, romantic legal thriller

James Scott Bell is a multi-bestselling author and the winner of the Christy Award for Excellence. He is also the author of the #1 bestselling book for writers, Plot & Structure. He lives and writes in Los Angeles.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Higher Justice 17 Jan 2014

Bell has the ability to transport one to the time in history of his story. Because of his ability to interweave real people of the era into his story, the reader begins to "live" in those times. One can learn many interesting and amusing things about famous people of the time. His interchange between those people, the characters in the story and his heroine, Kit Shannon, is delightful. Good reading. Fun and keeps one's interest.

5.0 out of 5 stars TRULY A CLASSIC SERIES! 28 Dec 2012
By Toby Martin II (aka R. Howe) - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition
The five KIT SHANNON books in this extraordinarily fine series are, indeed, true classics... classics in the spirit of Mr. Charles Dickens himself! The stories, set in the early years of the 20th century, were written by James Scott Bell, with the assistance of another excellent author, Tracie Peterson. Wrapped around a number of historical figures, these works of fiction come alive in a manner not often experienced--certainly not in today's world. The five books are educational, suspenseful, emotional (among other attributes); and, not least of all, they bring the Christian faith of the characters to the surface in a strong, convincing, and unapologetic manner. Kit Shannon comes alive on these pages as a dedicated and courageous woman, well ahead of her time in what was then a "man's world." THIS SERIES IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED... CONGRATULATIONS TO MR. BELL AND MS. PETERSON!

4.0 out of 5 stars Still an engaging series though worldliness is closing in on Kit... 14 July 2014

Even in this book #5, I still rate the series highly for quality. I mentioned in review of book 4 that the main character had taken an arrogant turn and her character had not been tested by defeat. I would add to that in book 5 the main character is doing things in court she formerly would have been appalled by had they been done by another attorney. But this is less a testament to faults of character and more a testament to the writer's skill at creating a very powerful, vivid character. That I am engaged enough IN the character and the stories to even spend time analyzing her character traits is rock solid testament to the quality of writing. Frankly, most novels I read, I've forgotten two hours after finishing them, much less bothering to spend time analyzing the characters. But this series is worth it.

If I had one disappointment with book #5 it was that the adoption that takes place just seemed misplaced. But that was not a deal breaker.

Great read. Great glimpse of early 1900's history. I'm just excited to be engaged in a novel.
