I like Douglas Reeman, but some of his stories descend into second-rate melodrama - this is one of them. The hero of High Water is particularly annoying, he has such poor judgment and makes so many obvious mistakes you start to think that he might have learning difficulties: at one point he gets locked in a room for half a day, gets beaten up and tied up and only remembers the 11 inch knife he stuck in his sock when he squats down and accidentally stabs himself in the leg. How could ANYONE forget a huge knife stuck in their sock? Despite this, and other silly plot developments, the story grabs you, and once you start reading you want to finish.
