This album is a MUST for guitar enthusiasts, and people who just love music - it has everything you want. For jaw dropping technique "Tumeni Notes" is unsurpassed. Anywhere. Yes - anywhere. The album has other qualities too - "Looking back". "Highland Wedding", "Ghostwind" - all wonderfully atmospheric, fantastically executed. It is a fine CD, which will stand proudly in any collection.

Inspect the Morse 30 May 2008

Back in the eighties a guitar buddy of mine gave me a cassette tape(yes I am that old),on one side was the frenetic finger blurring wizardry of Tony MCalpines Maximum Security aqnd on the other was this.A strange combination then both great guitarists but totally different styles.Needless to say I devoured both recordings with the sort of fervour only an instrumentalist can have.I now own both on c.d and still listen to them both on a regular basis.High Tension wires is simply breathtaking in places I can't believe the last review did n't mention the track Modoc which is an acoustic piece of such astounding beauty that such an ommision seems criminal. If it were only for this one piece alone it is more than worth investing in this c.d,luckily there is much more to this recording than just that one masterpiece other hi-lights include Ghostwind and Tumeni Notes. If you want a more rocky approach to Steves playing I'd also recomend the also excellent Southern Steel. As the man before me said buy this and treat your ears to some truly soothing and beautiful music.

The first I heard of Steve Morse was a guest spot on Gimme Back My Bullets, which I think - and I`m not throwing this praise around casually - is the most astonishing guitar solo I`ve ever heard. As I understand it, Morse had grown disillusioned with music, and was operating as a commercial airline pilot, but his cameo on the Skynyrd Tour gave him his "mojo" back. This album followed - and to say it is different to the pyrotechnics I expected would be fair (although there are plenty of jaw dropping moments). I thought I`d be getting Joe Satriani/Steve Vai style metal-tinged wizardry, but this is a very mellow and thoughtful record; technically unbelievable though, and stacked full of emotion. The highlights for me are Ghostwind, Highland Wedding, Third Power, Tumeni Notes (geddit?) and Endless Waves in particular, though there are no "bad" tracks. I`m not sure if playing guitar is essential for appreciation of Steve Morse but it certainly helps...he is really something else.
