Things That Go POP! 24 Oct 2010
Had the unit for less than three days and the AC/DC converter in the mains plug went pop. Now useless. Aside from that the leads are far too short to be of any real use. Thankfully, no damage to done to any of my kit, unlike others who have left reviews.

The hub itself is excellent. Compact, USB 2.0 compliant and works fine. However, the power supply provided with this hub is very poor.

As an electronics engineer I always test the power-supply adapter that is supplied with new products I have purchased before plugging them into the product. Given that for a USB hub the power adapter will be responsible for providing power to all my cherished bus-powered USB devices, a faulty power supply can potentially damage much more than just the hub itself.

When testing the power supply provided with this hub I have found that it is of a very poor design. During testing under various loads (but within the manufacturer's stated rating of 500mA +/-30mA) I had a DC output voltage swing of between 4.2V and 6.1V. USB 2.0 powered devices require a regulated supply of between 4.75V and 5.25V. Under-voltage can cause malfunction of USB devices and over-voltage can cause permanent damage.

If you purchase this hub I would recommend replacing the supplied power supply with a good quality regulated DC adapter capable of at least 1A at 5V.

OK, but... 20 July 2010
By Toad
So far, it seems to be working, and is a nice-looking little unit. But what's with the ridiculously insufficient lead lengths? Both cables are only a little in excess of 60 centimetres long. That's not enough to reach most PC's to connect via the back under a desk (the way they are normally set out in an office), nor is it long enough to reach most wall sockets.

There is no way for them not to be aware that this is not enough. Is it designed so we have to go off and buy a USB extension cable? I don't even know if there's a way to extend the AC, except for buying a new one.

It also runs very hot, which isn't ideal.

Rubbish.
Has a very cheap feel to it, the hub doesn't exactly fit very well into the bace either - there are no grooves to slide it in, its more of a jam-and-push technique to get it to... Read more

Absolute garbage.
High speed? Utter rubbish.

Don't be fooled as I was into thinking that all USB hubs are the same these days.

Misleading description
I received this with a two pin plug - not a UK 3 pin plug. If I hadn't have chucked the packaging I would have returned it. Works reasonably as an unpowered hub though. Read more
