This classic unknown comedy pitches scottish aliens from outspace against the witts of english knights. With a special guest apperance from MTV's ex presenter Ray Cokes, this truly is one mental film that will have you fighting for your breath and sanity.

I've just received this from a Canadian supplier through an Amazon order, and this is not aimed at their service (which was faultless).
However, it appears there are TWO versions of this film, the British one with the redubbed aliens having Scottish accents and heaps of sarcasm, and the US version. The version I received after ordering it from here however, does not have the redub, and the aliens have silly squeaky voices, and a subtitle translation.
As for my rating, the Scottish version would have gotten a 5, this one only deserves a 2.
While this is still watchable, and fairly funny, it's a pale shadow of the British release - if you're expecing an alien to complain about the stupid English or telling Roger of Journingham he's not getting a (censored) sausage, I'm afraid you're going to be disappointed.

A Missed Opportunity 13 Mar 2000
By Rod Summers - Published on Amazon.com
Format:DVD
I had high hopes for this movie when I first learnt that someone was going to make a film version of Poul Anderson's classic novel, but somewhere along the way the producers decided to make this as a comedy movie instead of a straight action adventure story. Stupid beyond belief, the powers that be missed the chance to turn a great action story into a great action movie. Dumb. What should have been a stirring space epic with bold knights in armour, treachery and villainous aliens becomes a tedious - and cringingly bad at times - waste of time. One day, perhaps, someone will have the guts to make a proper film version of Anderson's great book.

Sci-fi? 24 Jan 2010

This film has a good premise and excellent material to work from, but does not avail itself of it. This is a passable movie that could have been great if it had followed the novel more closely. If you are under 15, see the film...if you are older, read the book. It is an excellent work to read.

Oh dear 6 Sep 2001
By Scott Knights - Published on Amazon.com
Format:DVD
Sorry, but this is a dismal movie. It starts badly when the credit blurb on the packaging says Paul, not Poul Anderson. Not only is it completely unlike the book but the attempted humour almost entirely misses the mark. The human characters are portrayed as complete imbeciles and the aliens are not much better. I accept that compromises have to be made when adapting novels to screen, but why bother with the license in the first place if you are simply going to use the title and ignore the plot?
