This film was excellent. The plot was perfectly timed and new twists and turns were added at the right time. The timing in the film keeps the watcher genuinely interested from start to finish. Throughout the film, you are supplied with just the right information to keep you guessing but not so little that you have no clues as to what is happening! The perfomances put in by Asheley Judd and Morgan Freeman were, as always, superb! It was strange to see Freeman play a less than perfect character. He was still a good guy but he had certain flaws, and he played this realistically.
The content of this film was well balanced. This was a supsense film and the cleverly built up tension was not clouded by too much sex or violence.
I found that it added to the suspense when there were flashbacks to the event in question. The viewer was shown different scopes on what happened and it really got the viewer involved in the guessing game!
On the whole, this film was tense, interesting, and moved at the right pace. The characters were realistic, well acted and consistent.
I had no pre-conceived ideas of this film before watching it as i hadnt heard of it but i was pleased to report it as being a top film!

Formulaic and predictable and a couple of criticisms that could be levelled at “High Crimes” and certainly at times you do feel that the film is running though the required set of scenes for this type of film. Oh, here comes the scene when the lead female gets spooked in her car, oh here’s the scene when the lead man gets beaten up, oh here’s the stand off between the two main protagonists. But for all that, it does remain a very entertaining film and is extremely watchable.
Claire Kubrik (Ashley Judd) is a high powered attorney who though she knew everything about her husband, Tom, until he is arrested for crimes he committed in El Salvador, whilst a member of a Special Forces detachment.
Claire vows to defend her husband, but being uninitiated in military law she recruits ex-marine Charlie Grimes (Morgan Freeman) to her cause. For all his legal knowledge, Grimes has a reputation for being something of a loose cannon and a reformed alcoholic to boot.
And this is where you get the feeling you’ve seen it all before, although its rather well shot and some of the action scenes are well presented you do feel that the direction is running to a script.
That’s not to say that Judd and Freeman don’t generate some good atmosphere between themselves and you get the feeling that they are obviously enjoying the experience of the film. Both put in good solid performances (as you would expect) and they try to get as much from their roles as possible. There’s not much in the way of support, especially from Jim Caviezel (as Claire’s husband) but both Adam Scott and Amanda Peet put in some great turns with more than a little sweet romance.
Don’t expect anything new here, but this is never the less a good solid thriller adventure film and is well worth checking out.

Hands up, I missed this first time around. However, better late than never !!!!!

Armyman, Tom Kubik (Jim Caviezal), is charged with war crimes and must stand trial for his lfe in a military court. He is defended by his attorney wife Claire (Ashley Judd) and aided by shrewd ex militery lawyer, Morgan Freeman.

So a straight forward did he do it ?? Apparently not !! The defence team soon learn that getting to the truth can cost lives. There are some amazing twists and turns in this film. So much so, there will be a few occasions when you think you have the film worked out, and be wrong. Courtroom drama with plenty of decent action. Humerous, violent (at times), exciting and unpredictable.

Cracking performances from Judd and Freeman.

Having previously seen the film and liking the two principal stars I knew exactly what I was getting.

Typically the story line involves the FBI and a seemingly government covert operative having turned rogue. There are sufficient twists and turns in the story line to keep a viewer changing their minds as to what actually transpired many years ago.

I would recommend this film to anyone wishing a good yarn and excellent performances from both Ashley Judd and Morgan Freeman.

If this had been from a true story it would have made 5 star for me. The story of the people shot was awful and I know that kind of thing still happens as we speak. The twists and turns were good. I understand why other reviewers have said it would have been good to have more in the court room but as there are stories away from the courtroom it would have gone on forever. It was an amazing story so perhaps this could have been more than it was? I don't know. There was sadness and romance. I think Judd is a good actress, I've always liked her but I was disappointed to see her playing a similar role that she's played before. A bit like watching 'Double Jeopardy' again. Morgan Freeman - I can never find fault in him. He's brilliant. I hated the end part when her husband ties her up. I didn't get the husband really. For goodness sake, the guy was a soldier. Sometime in his life he would have killed someone. So fair enough, him admitting would have been enough. Why did they have to make him turn into a monster? Caviezel is one of my favourite actors. That was the biggest 'downer' for me in this film. Otherwise, worth a watch all who like action thrillers, and Freeman, Judd and Caviezel.
