Product Description

Bob Harris

This album is Daniels best work to date – absolutely stunning.

A pop genius…

Utterly gorgeous. Beautiful summery jangly pop. Define Love is probably my song of the year so far.

Classic Rock Magazine - Gavin Martin 8/10

...a cornucopia of ear-tingling sounds and eagle-eyed songs from a great, underrated British singwriter. Recommended.

This album is pretty much business as usual. It's more acoustic based than his debut solo album, Ramshackle Beauty, but that doesn't alter the fact that this guy can write killer hooks. This album is chock full of melodic genius. Like other reviewers, I'd liken this to the Cosmic Rough Riders, Enjoy the Melodic Sunshine album. It has all the great qualities that album has. Brilliant songwriting with melodies to die for, great acoustic guitar sounds and wonderful harmonies the Beach Boys would have been proud of. The fact that these songs aren't all over the radio baffles me. Listening to this in the car as the winter sunshine breaks the morning begs the question, why would anyone want to listen to the radio in their cars when you could listen to this instead. Even the artwork this cd is housed in is great. It's impossible to pick a standout song as they all merit being on the cd. Only one song lets it down a little, Rainbow City, which is a bit sugary pop for my taste. Be assured, this is a classic album by a classic and underrated songwriter. It's a funny old world that puts James Blunt and Paolo Nutini inthe charts, yet ignores this marvelous album. Buy this cd with confidence. You will not regret it.

No worries about difficult second album (Postcards being an album of outtakes) syndrome here as Wylie unleashes another beautiful classic. This one's more acoustic with reference points ranging from Harvest era Neil Young to Notorious Byrd Brothers. The Neil Young influence is particularly strong on Broadcast News, Tell Them The Truth and the opener, That Was The Day. The Sound Of Children sounds like a Byrds classic and there's a great ballad called I Wouldn't Lie. This album has more in common with the Cosmics Enjoy The Melodic Sunshine than with Ramshackle Beauty and the highest compliment I can give is that it's up there with those albums. This album is a joy to listen to and the frosty acoustic guitars sparkle and shine underneath the melodies. Go get it.

More acoustic than Ramshackle Beauty and yes it is more like Enjoy the Melodic Sunshine but apart from the tunes being as cool as they always are, the lyrics are definitely more mature. This is his best album and I can imagine still listening to this 20 years from now. I'd like to echo what others continually say about him and that is, when will the world wake up and discover this amazing music. I'm not going to single out any songs for special attention, just trust me, they are all the beez kneez.
