Enjoyable ... yes!

Gripping ... yes! Certainly!

Hard to put down? It wouldn't be a book by Katia Lief if it were. This book held me right up to the end, and was typical of a book by Katia Lief. It should appeal to readers of both Norah Roberts and Mary Higgins Clark.

My only complaint is that I feel that Katia Lief has a tendency to hurry the endings, with the result that the endings tend to appear underdeveloped and a little disappointing compared with the rest of the book. This is a real shame, as I find 90% of the book to be virtually un-putdownable!

Well worth a try!

A Twist Too Far 5 Oct 2011
By A. Chell VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback|Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
Having enjoyed Katia Lief's previous novel "You Are Next", I was looking forward to the next instalment in ex-cop Karin Schaeffer's life, and - by and large - I wasn't disappointed.

Lief manages to write both emotion and action well, fleshing out both her characters and their surroundings to the point where you almost feel you know these people and places in the real world. And in the first part of the book, Schaeffer's search for her missing-presumed-dead husband is compelling and believable.

Unfortunately, that level of realism is somewhat lost in the latter stages of the book. I can't go into too much detail because of spoiling the plot, but suffice to say that the twists and turns of that plot, and the decisions some characters make in order to follow it, verge on the ridiculous at times.

If you're able to suspend your disbelief to a greater extent than I was, I'm sure you'll find this book very enjoyable.

By Michael Watson TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback|Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
A waste of printer's ink, frankly. It's okay but there's nothing in the book which tugs at your emotional strings. The characters are boring and Karin Schaeffer is a pain in the neck. I'm not surprised Mac ran off. Though that isn't why he did - or so the author would have us believe. Anyway, if Mac had read this book beforehand, he'd have tried to remain dead, I'm sure.

I positively enjoy imaginative plots but this one, well, it's certainly imaginative but I didn't enjoy it. I don't want to spoil things for other readers. I have read her previous novel and quite enjoyed it but the author will have to lift her game if she wants me to take on the next book.

It's just not possible to empathise with any of the characters so, as we follow them flying all over the place on a whim, discovering who's not who they say they are, I got to the stage that I badly wanted the book to finish and whether any of them survived was of no consequence. Of course, some don't but regrettable as it is, Ms Shaeffer does.

Another good holiday read
Like most of Katia Lief's novels, "Hide and Seek" is an above-averagely penned thriller, which makes for an excellent novel for a long plane flight, or an idle few days on the... Read more

Excellent!
Not only is this well written, it is an excellent, fast paced, piece of crime fiction, one of Ms Lief's best. This has atmosphere, great characters, strong plot, and menace.
